Dr. Butler
Director, Center for Cybersecurity Research and Analysis
Dr. Butler worked in the networking and IT industries as a network engineer and consultant for over 20 years. He has served as a joint qualified communications information systems officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired as a Colonel with 30 years of service. He is very active in various working groups in the areas of cloud computing and cybersecurity. Dr. Butler earned his DSc in Cybersecurity at Capitol in 2016 researching consumer countermeasures to illegal cellphone intercept.
Dr. Steele
Chair and Professor of the Computer Science Department
Dr. Steele has extensive experience in leading institutions at all levels of program leadership, curriculum development and teaching. Throughout his career, his focus on forming industry partnerships has enabled special teaching and research initiatives. His areas of interest include applied machine learning, mobile information systems, artificial intelligence and health informatics. He has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed publications, and his work has been patented and successfully commercialized. Dr. Steele holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science.
Rick Hansen
Professor of Practice in Cybersecurity
Professor Hansen is a military veteran and currently serves as the CEO of a cybersecurity and research firm. Beyond his experience in cybersecurity, his areas of interest include application of Socratic Learning for technology training & education, autonomous vehicle communications & countermeasures, and entrepreneurship. At Capitol, he mentors and supports student projects such as the university’s Cybersecurity program — including the Cybersecurity Competition Team (“Signal 9”) — and the Astronautical Engineering Program. He has a Masters Degree in Computer Science from the Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelors Degree in Electronic Engineering from Capitol College.
